The Team
DHL Genie is built and maintained by a cross-functional team within DHL Supply Chain.
Executive Sponsorship & Strategic Direction
Cem Yığman — Overall Sponsor
Cem is the driving force behind the initiative. He ensures the project aligns with DHL's broader digitalization goals and secures the necessary organizational backing for success.
- Strategic Alignment: defines how DHL Genie fits into the long-term digital strategy (Strategy 2030), ensuring the tool delivers tangible business value across the region.
- Executive Sponsorship: champions the project at board and regional management levels, removing organizational roadblocks and securing budget and resources.
- Adoption & Governance: sets the tone for enterprise-wide adoption, encouraging departments to embrace AI-driven workflows and overseeing high-level governance compliance.
- Innovation Advocacy: identifies opportunities to scale the successful pilot to other business units or countries within the DHL network.
Project Leadership & AI Architecture
Murat — Project Lead and AI Architect
As Project Lead and AI Architect, Murat is responsible for the overall product vision and the core artificial-intelligence strategy that powers Genie. He bridges the gap between DHL's operational needs and technical execution.
- AI Strategy & RAG Architecture: designed the end-to-end Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline, including chunking strategies, embedding model selection, and vector search configuration within Azure AI Search.
- Prompt Engineering & Model Tuning: developed and refined system prompts for GPT to ensure high accuracy, proper tone, and strict adherence to safety guardrails (preventing hallucinations).
- Product Roadmap & Multi-Tenancy: defined the multi-tenant strategy to scale Genie across different departments, ensuring data isolation and distinct access controls.
- Stakeholder Management: acts as the primary liaison between business units and the technical team, translating operational pain points into technical requirements.
- Search Optimization: configured hybrid search capabilities (Keyword + Vector) and semantic ranking to maximize the relevance of retrieved documents.
Software Engineering Leadership
Yusuf — Software Engineering Lead
Yusuf serves as the Software Engineering Lead, providing technical oversight and ensuring the system's stability, security, and scalability. He governs the architectural integrity of the platform.
- Technical Architecture: defines the overall microservices and containerization strategy (Docker) to ensure the backend supports high concurrency and low latency.
- Security & Compliance: enforces enterprise security standards (ISO 27001), managing Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) integration and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
- Code Quality & DevOps: establishes coding standards, leads code reviews, and oversees the CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions / Bicep) for automated, error-free deployments.
- Resource Optimization: monitors Azure cost management and resource utilization to ensure the solution remains cost-effective at scale.
Backend Development & Infrastructure
Atakan & Selim — Backend & Infrastructure Engineers
Atakan and Selim build the "engine" of Genie, handling data ingestion, API logic, and cloud infrastructure.
- API Development: developed the high-performance Python (Quart) REST APIs that handle user requests, context retrieval, and LLM orchestration.
- Ingestion Pipeline (ETL): built the automated pipelines using Azure Document Intelligence to extract, clean, and vectorize unstructured data (PDFs, SharePoint sites) into Azure AI Search.
- Database Management: managed the Cosmos DB integration for storing chat history and user analytics, ensuring data persistence and fast retrieval.
Frontend Development & User Experience (UX)
Aslı & Simge — Frontend Developers
Aslı and Simge are responsible for the user interface, accessibility, and the seamless interactive experience of DHL Genie.
- UI/UX Implementation: built the responsive chat interface using React, Microsoft Fluent UI, Material UI, and Tailwind CSS, focusing on a clean, intuitive design that requires zero training to use.
- Interactive Features: implemented real-time streaming responses, citation rendering (clickable sources), and dynamic markdown parsing for rich text display.
- Mobile responsiveness: ensured the layout collapses gracefully on screens narrower than 768 pixels (tablets, phones) so non-desk employees can use Genie on shop-floor devices.
- State Management: managed complex frontend state to handle chat history context, user feedback loops, and multi-departmental switching.
